Warren County government is celebrating a successful 2012 in workplace safety with 15 departments recognized for having “no lost time” during the year.
Making the safety grade were the county’s departments of Sanitation, Animal Control, Highway, and Administration. Also honored was the school system’s Central Office, Maintenance Department and Extended Day Care. County schools which were recognized were Eastside, West, Hickory Creek, Irving College, Centertown, Morrison, and Warren Academy. Additionally, Warren County Memorial Airport had no lost-time accidents.
Warren County Executive John Pelham says the county values its employees and is working to address their day-to-day needs to provide them a safe work environment which enables them to maintain a long, healthy work life.
“Our employees are truly our greatest assets and we are working hard to address the risks inherent to the work which needs to be done on a daily basis,” said Pelham.
Warren County is self-insured so each department is asked to be involved and be active participants in making Warren County one of the leading examples in municipal governments in the state of Tennessee.
Safety Committee meetings are held with department managers, school system principals, and department representatives. Each county department and school has its own representative to address risks within their operations and work to get all other employees within their department involved in making their location the safest it can be.
County safety coordinator David Britton directs the Safety Committee meetings and activities of the members.
“Every day is a success when you know you have done something to improve working conditions for someone and reduced the risk of injury for them and others going forward,” said Britton.
He added, “Working a complete year with no lost time is a goal every business has but few get to achieve. These departments are a shining example of the work being done in Warren County.”
Awards were recently given to each department which achieved no lost time last year.
