Sheriff Jackie Matheny says an ankle bracelet monitoring system will help to ease jail overcrowding for nonviolent offenders in need of medical care.
The full Warren County Commission accepted a budget transfer of $12,000 that will allow Warren County Jail officials to begin utilizing ankle bracelet monitoring.During Monday night’s monthly meeting of the full Warren County Commission, members unanimously voted to transfer $12,000 from the county’s general fund to the Sheriff’s Department budget for fiscal year 2015-16. The measure passed 23-0.According to Sheriff Jackie Matheny, the program will be mainly used for individuals with medical conditions who are in custody for misdemeanor and nonviolent charges. “I wouldn’t call it a work release program,” said Matheny.
