McMinnville officials voted to move forward with a cost analysis study of the Blue Building to determine the financial feasibility of renovating one floor for the police department verses leveling the existing building and constructing a new facility. The measure passed with a vote of 4-3. Voting in favor of the study were Mayor Jimmy Haley, Vice Mayor Ben Newman and Aldermen Billy Wood and Mike Neal. Voting against the study were Aldermen Rick Barnes, Jimmy Bonner and Ken Smith.Prior to the vote, Smith read a letter from Architects, Engineers and Planner (AEI) president Peter Metts which favored leaving the Blue Building intact and constructing a new building behind it for the police department as the “most economical” way to go.“My apologies for not being present,” said Metts.
