McMinnville officials have rejected a request from Industrial Development Board director George Burke to market the Blue Building for one year in an effort to find a suitable buyer.A motion to enter into contract negotiations failed 4-3 on Tuesday night. Aldermen Mike Neal, Ken Smith, Rick Barnes and Jimmy Bonner voted against it, while Mayor Jimmy Haley, Vice Mayor Ben Newman and Alderman Billy Wood voted in favor. What the city rejected was a plea from Burke to allow him one year to try and fulfill a dream he has had for several years that the Blue Building could be used as a recruiting tool to attract a private company, or public entity, to McMinnville.“Dream with me a minute, see the people pouring from the building at lunch time to support downtown restaurants, novelty shops, and so forth,” said Burke in his request letter. “See the activity on Main Street as spouses join their mates to eat lunch together, and linger thereafter to shop downtown.
