AEI Architects and Engineers of Cookeville received an initial nod from McMinnville officials on an in-depth structural integrity and environmental evaluation of the Blue Building.Building and Grounds Committee members Ben Newman, Ken Smith and Rick Barnes met to discuss the two bids received by the city on the project — one from MBI (Michael Brady Inc.) for $96,500, and one from AEI for $9,200.MBI’s bid included $42,000 for testing to identify all work necessary to stabilize the various parts of the building, $19,500 to prepare the necessary abatement plan required to identify and remove the hazardous materials, and $35,000 for professional architecture and engineering services. An addendum by MBI stated, “This fee does not include measured drawings of all the buildings. Drawings provided by the city of McMinnville of the existing building will be utilized to complete the scope of work outlined in this proposal.”Other than the statements to explain the price, MBI did not specify what work will be done, Newman said.“MBI doesn’t necessarily explain what they plan to do with our building,” Newman said. “If someone from MBI was here, maybe they could explain what they would do.
