Liquor store issue still not on ballot

Just over a week remains for candidates to file their petitions to run for one of three McMinnville alderman seats that will be up for grabs in the upcoming November city election, an election where no incumbents may be running.As of Tuesday afternoon, nine potential candidates had picked up their papers at the election office. To qualify, the hopefuls must obtain signatures of 25 registered McMinnville city voters and return the completed petition to the election office before noon Aug. 21.The present group of potential candidates with petitions out does not include any of the three incumbent aldermen, those being Billy Wood, Rick Barnes and Ken Smith. Barnes and Smith have both publically said they will not run.
