City discussing water rate increase

McMinnville officials will be discussing a proposed water and sewer rate increase this Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6:15 p.m.“I’m still pushing forward with this,” said Alderman Jimmy Bonner. “I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from people who think this is the way to do it – a small increase every year to prevent a huge one every few years.”His proposal is to increase water and sewer rates by 1.5 percent every year. Bonner says a small increase annually will prevent a huge increase like the one in January 2014 when customers inside the city limits were given a 19 percent increase and those outside the city limits saw a 30 percent increase.“If we don’t do this, we’ll have another big increase of 19 percent in the next three to four years for city residents and probably higher than that for those outside the city limits,” said Bonner.
