City discusses recycling bin costs

Going green may cost the city of McMinnville some green. According to Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord, the initial effort to begin recycling paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum cans will require 36 indoor/park bins and four outdoor, large bins at a cost of $20,000.“We will need 22 at the Civic Center complex and 14 at the parks -- Ramsey, Riverfront, Rocket, Pepper Branch, Pistole, Farmers Market and The Lot downtown,” said McCord, to members of the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee. “Roughly the cost comes to about $20,000 for all 36 containers.”Some of the bins, specifically those located in parks and by concession areas, would be multiuse in nature.“Our feeling is anywhere we put a recycling bin it should have all the containers side by side – one for trash, one for paper, one for aluminum.
