City budget passes with 19-cent tax hike

Despite an amendment that divided the board, McMinnville officials set the budget for fiscal year 2011-12 Tuesday night, including a 19-cent tax increase for city property owners.The budget passed 4-3 with McMinnville Mayor Norman Rone, Vice Mayor Everett Brock, and Aldermen Billy Wood and Clair Cochran voting for the measure. Aldermen Rick Barnes, Jimmy Haley and Junior Medley voted against.Prior to the vote, Wood made a motion to accept the budget and a motion to amend by adding “provisions” to the budget.“I would like to include the salary for two McMinnville police officers,” Wood said. “I would also like to review the salary range for city employees.
