Centertown gets its sales tax revenue

The Warren County Commission voted Monday night to give the city of Centertown its share of sales tax revenue for purchases made inside Centertown city limits.It would amount to about $25,000 a year, according to director of accounts Linda Hillis.Gross sales tax collections in the city of Centertown between July 2011 and March 2012, less the 2 percent Trustee’s commission, were $35,926. The amount that would have gone to the city of Centertown during that nine-month span, less the half allocated for schools, would have been $17,963.The city of Centertown will receive its first monthly sales tax revenue check in July. The amount the city will receive will begin May 17, which is the date Centertown Mayor J.W. Underhill submitted a letter requesting sales tax revenue.Underhill first made a verbal request May 10 to the Warren County Executive’s office for the sales tax monies to be released.
