Santa won’t get run over by a reindeer, but there will be a Christmas in July Craft Fair this Saturday in Rock Island.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rock Island Lions Club building at 2886 Pine Bluff Road. Admission is free and food will be available throughout the day.
A number of local crafters will be on hand selling their wares. Among items scheduled to be on sale are wood-turned pens, duck calls, wooden boxes, baby rattles, candles, birdhouses, bamboo pillows, baby items with monograming available, arrangements, jewelry, locally made metal signs, ornaments, and other collectibles.
“There will be a number of things to get you ready for Christmas early,” said Nancy Berlin, one of the organizers. “Come and shop with us now then relax when the holidays arrive. There will be something for everyone on your Christmas list.”
The Rock Island Lions Club conducts a craft fair at the sandbar in the fall. This is the first time the organization is holding a craft fair in the summer.
“This will be our first event of this kind so we hope for a good turnout,” said Berlin.
Concessions will be available throughout the day, starting with sausage and biscuits for breakfast, and beans and cornbread for lunch. Drinks and desserts will also be available.
The craft fair aims to raise awareness of the Lions Club mission of eyesight preservation and also lets people see the newly renovated Lions Club building, which is available to rent. The building has a remodeled kitchen and bathrooms and can be rented for events such as birthday parties, family reunions, and receptions.
For anyone who would like to be a vendor at this Saturday’s Christmas in July Craft Fair, vendor space is still available for $10. Call Joyce at 686-3565 to reserve your spot.
