The cause of death has been finalized for the mother and child found dead this summer inside their home at Arms Apartments.
“The mother’s cause of death has been set as undetermined,” revealed District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis of the autopsy conducted on Marisha Drake, 25. “The child’s cause of death was dehydration.”
Drake and her daughter, Kalyrica Drake, 14-months, were found dead inside their apartment in July when a maintenance man entered their home to conduct an inspection. Ms. Drake was found dead on the couch. Investigators believe she had been dead for several days. She had last been heard from via text over a week before her body was discovered. Police found the body of the toddler in a bedroom.
“We found no evidence or reason to believe there was foul play involved in either the death of the mother or the child,” Zavogiannis said, noting it is suspected the mother died and then the child later died due to lack of water.
Neighbors said the single mother had been sick in the days and weeks leading up to her death and had been apprehensive about taking the drugs prescribed for her treatment because she was pregnant.
The delay in coming back with a finding concerning the deaths was caused by the time it takes to complete toxicology tests.
