The Webb School in Bell Buckle celebrated its core mission on May 27, when 48 of its students received the Bible containing their Webb diplomas.
Local student Alex Bragg represents Warren County in Webb’s class of 2011. He is the son of Lynn and Jay Bragg.
All 48 students who started the year as seniors made the momentous walk across stage, a remarkable accomplishment, said Head of School Ray Broadhead.
“Your doors at Webb are about to close on this phase of your life and you, as a class, will scatter to open many different doors next year as you commence the next phase of your life,” Broadhead told students Friday. “You are well-prepared for that journey. You know what it means to be a tireless worker, to work effectively, and to be an accurate scholar.
Forty-seven graduates are enrolled in colleges and universities and one graduate is joining the military, Broadhead added.
Michael McDonnell, class of 1957, was the 2011 commencement keynote speaker. McDonnell, a graduate of Yale University, is co-owner of Orgill Inc., which provides wholesale distribution and retail services to the home improvement industry. He is also a co-owner of the St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to the presentation of diplomas, the ceremony included the acknowledgment of senior standouts.
“This is a really nice group of kids,” said Ray Broadhead. “They’re artistic, talented, and they’ve honored Webb.”
Webb’s graduates have committed to attend a number of colleges and universities, including Emory University, Berry College, Clemson University, Sewanee, Mississippi State University, University of Tennessee, Davidson College, and Auburn University. The class was offered more than $1 million in collegiate merit scholarships.
The Webb School is a day/ boarding, college-preparatory school for grades 6-12 that emphasizes academic excellence and character development. For more information about The Webb School visitwww.thewebbschool.com.
