The idiom of the third time’s the charm was accurate for beer sales at this year’s Smokin’ in McMinnville BBQ Cookoff at McMinnville Civic Center. On its third time under consideration, a special event beer permit was approved.McMinnville officials sanctioned the event and accepted a special exception beer permit by Junior Auxiliary on Tuesday night with a vote of 4-2. Voting in favor were Mayor Jimmy Haley, Vice Mayor Ben Newman and Aldermen Billy Wood and Rick Barnes.
