Warren County High School senior Jacob Baehman is marching his way into college with a four-year scholarship from Virginia Military Institute.Baehman, 17, has been involved with the JROTC program all four years he’s been in high school and learned the value of physical conditioning through his participation with the Raider team.“What they try to do is find any way to make us suffer,” said Baehman of his workouts as a Raider.The team competes against other schools in obstacle-course type challenges that require strength and conditioning. There are walls to climb, enormous tires to lift, and races to be completed with backpack and full gear.To prepare, the Raider team practiced during the season on Mondays, Wed-nesday and Fridays before school at 5:50 a.m. After school, team members would practice again from 3 to 5 p.m.The team competes in the fall and placed in the top three in three of its meets. WCHS earned a berth in national competition in Molenea, Ga., where the team finished 11th.“The ROTC program has really made me learn a lot about responsibility and leadership,” said Baehman.
