McMinnville officials are serious about buying local – even spending an additional $3,046 in taxpayer dollars in order to do it. The decision left city officials divided Tuesday night and the city attorney urging against the move.“I can’t believe they actually voted to spend an additional $3,000 in money that residents of the city of McMinnville entrusted in them to spend wisely,” said Safety Committee chairman Jimmy Bonner. “My only hope is members of the full board see how wasteful this is and put a stop to it.”Bonner’s plea came after he failed to sway fellow Safety Committee members Rick Barnes and Mike Neal against accepting a bid from Kidd Ford for a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor in the amount of $22,644 to replace a Chevrolet Impala at McMinnville Police Department. The city received five additional bids.
