Aldermen's pay to be linked to attendance

McMinnville officials have accepted on first read an ordinance that will link salary to attendance at city board meetings in an effort to reduce absenteeism.The measure passed 6-1 with Mayor Jimmy Haley, Vice Mayor Ben Newman, and Aldermen Rick Barnes, Ken Smith, Mike Neal and Jimmy Bonner voting in favor of it. Alderman Billy Wood voted against it.Prior to the vote, Wood made an attempt to reduce the annual salary for aldermen from $4,800 to $1. “I would like to amend this,” said Wood.
