Womack Printing wins big

Marli McBride was in the circle and about to deliver a pitch to a waiting Holton Industries batter. McBride and her Womack Printing defense defeated Holton Industries just before the rain showed up Monday.

Womack Printing had one thing on its mind Monday and it wasn’t the heat or humidity. It was winning.
Womack Printing dominated from its opening at-bat and continued to pressure Holton Industries into submission. Womack Printing defeated Holton Industries, 18-2.
In the first at-bat for Holton Industries, Lataya Johnson started the game with a line-drive blast through the defense for a double. Paige Sweeton was up next and she reached base after she was hit by a pitch. A couple of back-to-back walks by Marli McBride and Regin Grissom started the Womack Printing lead at 1-0. Chloe Volf was also hit by a pitch and the lead was 2-0. Jazlyn Ward walked to first for another run, Womack Printing led 3-0. Mackena Hillis and Savannah Duggin singled and the inning ended with a 5-0 lead.
Holton Industries had not had any trouble finding runs before Monday evening. Its offense never really had a chance to get started. Kimberly Mendieta walked her way to first base and stole second and third shortly thereafter. Jaycie Hodges and Bre’Anna Harris reached first base on balls. The Womack Printing defense had seen enough and they retired the next three batters in order and held a 5-0 lead after the first.
In the top of the second, Sadie Duggin for Womack Printing lead off the inning with a walk. The first out followed off a strikeout. Trinity Eckol followed with a walk also to put two runners on for Womack Printing. Johnson stepped up to the plate and hit her second shot to the outfield for another double and scored two more making it a 7-0 ballgame. Sweeton singled and moved Johnson over to third base. McBride and Grissom walked and took an 8-0 lead. Volf sent a pitch to the outfield for a double and Womack Printing took a commanding 11-0 lead to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second after a lead-off out, Maggy Whiles playing up from the coach pitch league drew a walk. Emma Muncey blasted a single past the infield to put two runners on with only one out. A strikeout followed and Holton Industries now had two on with two outs. Hodges walked and Harris was hit by a pitch. It allowed Whiles to cross and Holton Industries trailed 10-1. Samantha McCormick reached base on balls and another run crossed for a score of 10-2. A strikeout for out three ended the inning for Holton Industries with the bases loaded.
Womack Printing continued its offensive assault after holding Holton Industries to just two runs in its previous at-bat. Ward and Hillis picked up a pair of walks in the top of the third. Ward was caught when she attempted to steal third. The walks were followed by a pair of singles by Savannah and Sadie Duggin that scored Hillis for a 12-2 lead. Vada Lowery then singled through a hole in the infield and Savannah Duggin scored and Womack Printing led 13-2. Sadie Duggin and Lowery were tagged out on separate plays to end the inning.
Holton Industries came up to bat in the bottom of the third and it was the least productive offensive inning for Holton Industries. For the first time in the game, it was a three-up, three-down inning.
Womack Printing went back to work immediately and posted five more runs in its final trip to the plate. In its final at-bat, Womack Printing put the game out of reach and defeated Holton Industries by a final score of 18-2 on Monday evening.
