What was a tight game at halftime turned into the Trey Martin and Levi Scott show after the break.
The high-scoring backcourt duo for West Elementary picked up their intensity in the second half to lead the Wizards to a 29-19 victory at Bobby Ray on Tuesday night.
The third quarter proved to be decisive. West was nursing a 10-8 lead at the half when the Wizards began to rally in the third. Scott, who is quick off the dribble and hard to stop, scored nine points, while Martin matched his aggressiveness and scored four.
Their combination of speed and defense catapulted West to a 23-10 lead that would prove too big to overcome.
Bobby Ray had a distinct size advantage and utilized it to keep the game close in the first half. Kain Carpenter and Kyler Carpenter were both powerful inside forces and they snatched several rebounds to eliminate second-chance baskets for West. They were also effective in scoring down low.
In the end, West’s defensive ball pressure and quickness were too much for Bobby Ray to handle for four quarters.
