Another coaching position has been filled at Warren County Middle School. Travis Wilson has been named the WCMS Lady Pioneer softball coach, replacing Joe Damon after a tremendous six-year run with the program.

"We think Travis will be able to continue where Joe left off," said WCMS athletic director Betsy McBride. "Joe was very successful and we feel like Travis will be committed as well."

Wilson is no stranger to the diamonds in McMinnville, having been a standout for the Pioneers during his high school days and also serving as a coach of youth and school teams over the years. He'll be taking over a Lady Pioneer program that has been piling up wins over the last decade.

Damon was a steadying presence for a team that had three coaches in the previous four years before he took over in 2018. He wasted no time building one of the best programs in the Midstate, including taking the Lady Pioneers to the doorstep of the TMSAA tournament in two of the last three years. He went out a champion as well as the 2023 team won the CTC this spring.

Wilson will be one of at least six new coaches at WCMS when the 2023-24 athletic year starts next month.

WCMS has already hired new coaches for baseball (Jordan Underhill), girls sixth-grade basketball (Grace Rains), boys JV basketball (Lee Carden), girls 7-8 grade basketball (Jeff Chisam) and golf (Brian Ferguson) since the end of the 2023 school year.

The Standard will have more from Wilson and his plans for building the program this week.
