Football fanatics can finally get their fix this weekend at Nunley Stadium.
The Warren County football kickoff is set to start Friday night and continue into Saturday as a way for people to get an early glimpse at the WCHS and WCMS football teams.
For the first time under new coach Tom Moore, the WCHS football team will take the field at Nunley Stadium on Friday night to begin the football festivities. The Pioneers, hoping to improve on a 4-6 season while moving into the highly competitive Class 6A, are set to scrimmage Summit High School at 6 p.m.
It will be the first real look at coach Moore’s group as he tries to fill spots on each side of the ball. Warren County is hoping to build momentum throughout fall practice before taking the field for its season opener Friday, Aug. 21 at home against DeKalb County.
The action continues Saturday with a day packed with football.
Saturday’s events include a Powder Puff game at 2:30 p.m., an alumni flag football game and a scrimmage between the WCMS football team and Whitworth-Buchanan. The WCHS freshman and JV team was set to tak on Community High School, but was cancelled last minute. As of press time, coach Moore was in search of a replacement opponent.
Coach Moore will be on the field Saturday with his varsity team when he introduces the squad between the Powder Puff and alumni games.
WCMS coach Donnie Harris, entering his third year, is eager to get his team on the field. Facing Whitworth-Buchanan, a middle school in Murfreesboro, should give coach Harris a good idea of how much his team needs to grow before the start of the season.
“We’ve thrown a lot at our team this week in practice. We’re excited to see how far they’ve come and also what we need to focus on going forward,” said Harris.
The middle school scrimmage is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The WCHS freshman scrimmage will begin soon after.
Admission for the event is $5 per day or $8 for both days. Kids ages 5 and under will be admitted free.
