The Warren County Middle School softball team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Harris Middle School in quarterfinal action of the conference tournament at Coffee County Middle School on Tuesday night. The Lady Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.
The Lady Pioneers were led at the plate by Rhealee Johnson who went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Samantha Jennings also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Calyn Damon got the win on the mound, going five innings and striking out five.
Damon sat down the side in order in the top of the first and the Lady Pioneers scored first in the bottom of the inning. With runners on base, Johnson came up and hit a 2-RBI double to give the Lady Pioneers the lead, 2-0.
A few batters later, Sadie Simmons hit an RBI single, scoring Johnson, and the Lady Pioneers added to their lead, 3-0, after one. The Eaglettes had no answer for Damon in the top of the second and the Lady Pioneers made them pay.
An RBI single by Johnson and Madison Hollis in the bottom of the inning, increased the Lady Pioneer lead, 5-0. Both teams failed to score in the third, keeping the score the same, after three.
After the Eaglettes struggles continued at the plate in the top of the fourth, the Lady Pioneers added two more runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI double by Jennings and an error by the Eaglettes, 7-0.
The Eaglettes had one more chance in the bottom of the inning to tie or take the lead but Damon retired the side in order yet again, to let the lady Pioneers prevail, 7-0 and advance to the semifinals
The Lady Pioneers will face off against host Coffee County today, hoping to advance to the championship game Saturday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
