The Warren County Middle School soccer team opened its 2025 season in impressive fashion Tuesday, overpowering visiting Franklin County North 6-0 at the WCHS soccer field.
The Pioneers, who were coming off a dominant 9-0 win over Sequatchie County in their final preseason scrimmage last week, showed no signs of letting up against Franklin County, as they continually attacked the Gators’ goal, finding paydirt just under a minute into the contest when Austin Breedlove scored the home squad’s opening goal.
Although that first goal would prove to be all the Pioneers needed, it was far from all they'd record as they kept charging the Gator goal. Liam Warden made it 2-0 two minutes in, scoring off a penalty kick.
Franklin North attempted to turn things around, but its only threat in the first half came with just over 12 minutes left, and the shot was corralled by Pioneer goalkeeper Cason Farrar.
Up 2-0 at the break, the Pioneers added plenty of insurance in the second half, with goals from Keaton Jones and Adrian Cordova putting them up 4-0 before Breedlove scored his second goal later on a point-plank shot. Parker Jones, who had been denied a goal earlier in the second half, put the exclamation point on the victory in the closing seconds of the contest, rocketing a shot into the back of the net from long distance to provide the final winning margin.
WCMS (1-0) is scheduled to travel to DeKalb County March 4 for a 6 p.m. contest.
