Izzy Robinson recorded a hat trick and Sable Winfree added two goals as the Warren County Middle School girls soccer team scored another blowout victory Thursday. The Lady Pioneers took down visiting Prescott South 6-0.
Hailey Simpson also had a goal as the Lady Pioneers improved to 5-2 this season.
“I was very proud of how well the girls put together passes,” said second-year coach Lyndi Pack. “We also finished on most of our opportunities. Overall, I was proud of their play.”
On one the game’s most memorable plays, Robinson needed three shots to get the job done.
Leading 1-0 late in the first half, Warren County was awarded a penalty kick after a call went against Prescott South in its defensive zone. Robinson got the call to take the PK, but her initial shot hit the cross bar.
Robinson rushed to the rebound, but her second shot was deflected by the Prescott keeper. Robinson’s resiliency paid off when her third shot blasted into the back to the net to make it 2-0 at the break.
Warren County blew it open in the second half. Robinson added two more goals after the break, while Simpson and Winfree also got on the board. It was a perfect ending for the Lady Pioneers, who were looking to rebound from a 4-1 loss to Franklin North earlier in the week.
The loss was a reminder to Pack her team is still trying to grow into a complete team.
“We have been working on defense and building it up. Our goal as a team is to have better communication and string together passes. We just didn’t quite play to our potential the whole game,” said Pack.
The setback was sandwiched between a pair of blowouts. Along with Thursday’s victory over Prescott, Warren County also beat DeKalb County 6-1 at home last week.
Winfree and Carmen Verdel scored twice in the victory over the Lady Saints. Robinson and Simpson added one goal each.
Warren County will conclude a six-game homestand Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a matchup against Franklin South. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
