The WCMS Lady Pioneers are headed to sectionals on Monday after capturing a third-place finish in the Area Tournament in Coffee County.

WCMS outplayed Whithorne of Columbia and won with ease, 44-14, on Thursday night at Coffee County Middle School. There were 12 different Lady Pioneers who scored, led by Addison Steakley with 10.

“They deserve this as hard as they’ve been working and competing in practice and recent games,” said WCMS coach Mendy Stotts.

The game was over in a hurry when a fierce WCMS defense held Whithorne to just 1 point in the first quarter. Meanwhile, it was Steakley scoring 5 and Abby Graves adding 4 as the Lady Pioneers were up 14-1 after the first quarter.

Things went bad for Whithorne early and late. After scoring 1 point in the first quarter, the team didn’t score in the fourth.

Katie Betchel was one of the many Lady Pioneers who had a nice game. She scored 7.

WCMS will play Monday at 6 p.m. at Stewarts Creek.
