The WCMS Lady Pioneers suffered a frustrating loss to Franklin South at home Monday night, 37-33. It was a physical game in which the Lady Pioneers sent South’s leading scorer to the foul line many times, and in the process, Warren County got into foul trouble. Fouls definitely played a significant role in this game.
Hope Gilley fouled out for Warren County and Aubrey Oleksik collected four fouls. On the other end, South had one player foul out, and two of their players had four fouls each. There were times in the game when the fouling became personal. One South player pushed a Lady Pioneer after the play was over, but no foul was called for the push.
Aubrey Oleksik had a hot streak in the second quarter, scoring 7 straight points for the Lady Pioneers. Oleksik hit a 3-point shot and two 2-point shots that helped Warren County lead at halftime, 19-14. Clearly the difference in the second half was the amount of foul shots South made.
South’s Nakay Holman scored all of her team’s points in the third quarter. She made 7 of 8 foul shots that accounted for 7 of her 11 points in the quarter. Half of South’s 12 points in the final quarter came from the free throw line.
Warren County fouled South’s top two scorers heavily in the second half, trying to prevent them from scoring. South slowly pulled away in the second half as Holman and Anna Foster scored all but 2 of South’s points in the final two quarters.
