Coming down to the wire, the Warren County Middle School 7-8 grade Pioneer basketball team remains undefeated after a 31-26 close call playing host to a tough Coffee County squad Monday night.The Pioneers (4-0), having made the inside game look easy so far this year, had a rough go in the first half facing a stout Coffee County defense. At the break, it was anyone’s ballgame with WCMS holding onto a razor thin 2-point lead, 17-15.Third-quarter action found an uptick in the tempo for the Warren County offense that set the Red Raiders back enough for the Pioneers to have a 4-point lead, 25-21, going into the final quarter.Coffee County got within one point with 1:11 left, 27-26, after hitting two from the free-throw line.Pioneer C.J. Taylor hit one from the charity stripe making it a one bucket game, 28-26, with :35 left. Coffee County then missed a shot opportunity and Warren County gained possession with the help of Pioneer Kaden Jordan who fought for boards all night for the Pioneers.
