WCMS beats Cannon County
Easton Denning
Easton Denning finished with three hits in Friday's 11-6 win over Cannon County.

The Warren County Middle School baseball team capped off a busy first week of action with an 11-6 win over Cannon County Friday night.

Easton Denning finished with three hits and struck out seven over three-plus innings of work to help the Pioneers to their second win of the week. Warren County emerged from opening week at 2-1, splitting an earlier series with Shelbyville before bouncing back to take down Cannon County.

Brett Cantrell added three hits as well, part of a night where the Pioneer offense bashed 11 hits against Cannon County.

Warren County went into the fifth inning trailing 6-4, but the Pioneer bats woke up and took over the contest. Brayan Holguin drew a lead-off walk to start the fifth, then was joined by Alex van Vuuren following a single.

Keynai Bryan sliced the deficit in half with a single of his own before Denning knotted the score with an RBI groundout. Bryan would later score on a fielder’s choice to give the Pioneers a 7-6 advantage.

The lead grew to 8-6 when Cantrell singled to center field and brought around Tyler ‘T-Bone’ Adams.

Holguin was again the catalyst to an offensive outbreak in the sixth, starting things off with a double. Errors would allow Holguin and Jarren Harris to score later in the inning before Cantrell finished Cannon County off with another RBI single.

Brody Womack and van Vuuren combined to close down Cannon County over the last two-plus innings, allowing just one hit after Denning was relieved midway through the fourth inning.

Baler Melton added two hits and three RBIs in the contest, including a two-run double in the fourth that spotted the Pioneers an early 4-2 lead.

Warren County is set to take on Coffee County at home Monday. The Pioneers will make the return trip to Manchester Tuesday. Both games are set to start at 5 p.m.
