On the road for two games, the WCMS Pioneers baseball team took two more wins this past weekend. Friday’s matchup at Harris Middle School found the Pioneers taking home a 13-1 victory. The Pioneers (3-0, 2-0) run ruled the Eagles for the second time this season after a big 7-run inning in the top of the fifth added to the 6 runs scored up to that point.
Warren County ran through the lineup, as poor pitching by the Eagles led to a bases-loaded situation with the first three at-bats in the fifth. Wyatt Wilson was beaned by the ball next to drive in a run and Jace Brantley got a base on balls for the next up, scoring another run. Two big hits to left field, first by Westen Wilson then by Braden Bottoms, drove in three more runs and a hit to right by Ty Martin scored two more.
Bottoms got the win on the mound for the Pioneers with 7 strikeouts facing 18 batters and giving up only 2 hits and 1 run.
Scoring for Warren County were Omari Harris, Wyatt Wilson, Brantley and Bottoms all with 2 runs and Westen Wilson, Kason Holder, Martin, Alec Hobbs and John Garrett all scored 1 run apiece.
Hit leaders for the game included Ty Martin 3 hits, Braden Bottoms 3 hits, Westen Wilson 2 hits, 3 RBIs. WCMS amassed 13 runs on 11 hits.
“We have had a tough schedule playing four games in one week, especially this being our first week of games,” said WCMS coach Chad Young. “With a change in the pitching rules, we have had to ask a lot from our pitching rotation each game to be ready to contribute. Our pitching staff has been ready and turned out a top performance during each outing. Our hitting is improving and we are beginning to see a solid performance throughout the batting lineup. We continue to have some tough games coming up and look forward to seeing our team in that type of competition.”
