Cookeville RB David Gist took an inside handoff and rambled 71 yards on the Cavaliers first offensive play Friday night at Nunley Stadium.That run would typify the game as Cookeville’s offense rained down on the Pioneers in what was a stormy night of high school football.Cookeville jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 42-0 victory to hand Warren County its first loss.“We have a senior team and we have some good players and that has a lot to do with it,” said Cookeville coach Jimmy Maynord, whose team improves to 3-0.Warren County (2-1) entered the game averaging 40.5 points per game, but the Pioneers saw their offense grounded, never making it inside the Cookeville 20-yard line.The Warren County running game finished with 14 total yards and Pioneer running backs only had 3 carries. Most of the Warren County rushing attempts came from Pioneer QB Isaiah Grayson scrambling from the pocket.In contrast, Cookeville rushed for 344 yards.The Pioneers finished with seven first downs. Two of those came as a result of Cookeville penalties and two more came on the final drive.Cookeville, meanwhile, showed it could score from anywhere on the field behind a roster of flashy playmakers.
