Local teams ready for busy weekend

March Madness has been the talk of the sports world for two weeks and the tournament action seems to have trickled down to Warren County.Three local sports teams will be taking part in tournaments over the weekend, including the Warren County High School baseball team, playing host to the Dr Pepper Classic.The Warren County High School and Warren County Middle School softball teams will each be heading to Cookeville this weekend to take part in tournaments as well.The Dr Pepper Classic has long been one of the biggest tournaments for the Pioneer baseball team each year. While normally played with wooden bats, the Dr Pepper Classic will allow teams to stick with regular bats this year. The tournament, which started last night with Warren County playing host to Community in a game not completed by press time, will run through Saturday.The Pioneers will face stiff competition from across the Midstate as Community, Greenwood and DeKalb County will participate in this year’s tournament.Warren County is scheduled to play Greenwood at 11 a.m. today and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
