Trips to Tampa are quickly becoming a tradition for the Lady Broncos. Wins are still hard to come by for Boyd in Florida though.
Boyd fell in all three of its games in the Tampa Christmas Classic from Dec. 27-30, losing 73-44 to Lexington Christian Academy (Ky.), 70-38 to North Tampa Christian Academy and 61-44 to Boca Raton High School.
Boyd (10-8) flashed potential in all three games, but similar themes that have caused the team to fall in 7-of-8 games seemed to follow the team to Florida.
"Rebounding effort and defensive communication are where we have to continue to improve," said coach Tim Page. "We have to get all five on the same page and operating as one. We'll do it from time-to-time, but doing it consistently will be how we get back to championship-level basketball."
Sophomore Brooke Kesey continued her push toward 1,000 career points in Tampa, averaging 15.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in three games (including two double-doubles). Junior point guard Cydney Jane Perry was an all-around force, scoring 7.3 points, grabbing 4.3 rebounds, dishing out 3.7 assists and recording nine steals in three games.
Macie Bush had her best scoring night against Boca Raton, pouring in 15 points while hitting three triples. She also had 15 steals during the tournament, highlighted by nine thefts in the battle with North Tampa Christian.
Katie Bechtel closed out the tournament with her strongest performance - a 10-point, four-assist day against the Bobcats where the sophomore hit 2-of-3 from deep. Bechtel shot 44.4 percent from deep overall in Tampa.
Kelly Bush, Zoe Oliver and Channing Gannon also got into the scoring column for Boyd in the tourney.
