Tough debut

There won't be a highlight reel that comes out of Warren County's debut at Walker Valley Tuesday. The Pioneers were crushed by the Mustangs, falling 80-47 on the road to start the 2024-25 season.

Devin Fish did the heavy lifting for the Pioneers on offense, scoring a team-high 23 points - including going 14-for-15 from the line. No other Pioneer made it to double figures on a night where the group shot 28.6 percent overall and committed 23 turnovers.

A hot start featuring two free throws from Fish and a Keyton Reno steal that sparked a transition layup for Aaron Templeton 40 seconds in the game gave hope Warren County was ready to get off and running against the Mustangs, but one timeout changed the game.

Walker Valley came out of the stoppage on fire, ultimately draining 11-of-24 triples for the game and shooting 51.7 percent overall. The Mustangs built a 49-19 lead by halftime and never looked back.

The Pioneers were back in action Thursday at Notre Dame in hopes of picking up their first win. See Sunday's paper for more information.
