It took until the final five minutes to secure a season-opening victory, but the Warren County High School girls soccer team was willing to wait all night.Ansley Mullican’s goal with 3:44 to play, which was the senior’s second score, clinched a 2-1 win over Tullahoma High School Tuesday as the Lady Pioneers started their season.Warren County was scheduled to play last week, but Sequatchie County backed out of a game and lightning forced a postponement last Thursday in Franklin County. Therefore, the Lady Pioneers were still trying to shake off the offseason rust while dueling with a tough opponent Tuesday.Tullahoma opened its season with a win over Cookeville - Warren County’s main District 6-AAA rival - and showed why early in Tuesday’s game. The Lady Wildcats struck first when a quick transition play led to Lady Pioneer keeper Jessie Newby not being able to stop a one-on-one opportunity, but it proved to be the final time Tullahoma would get the best of Newby.The senior keeper for the Lady Pioneers would finish the night with 16 stops, including several spectacular efforts that kept her team in the game while the offense got going.
