The following is a summary of an interview with former Warren County High School coach Tommy Johnson, who resigned Monday after four years coaching the Pioneers. The interview was conducted by Standard sports editor Jeffery Simmons.JS: Can you explain what was behind you making the decision to resign?TJ: At this time in the program, I think it’s best I step down because when you look at the totality and body of work in the four years, I don’t think – and I think everybody will agree with me – that I have not accomplished on the field what needed to be accomplished.I told myself, and I told Mr. James Bennett (WCHS principal when Johnson was hired) and Todd Willmore, if I haven’t reached those goals or changed things in the four years I’m here, I’ll gladly step down. Sure, I think we’ve made some good strides and we’ve built a pretty solid foundation with the young men, but I think it’s time for somebody else to put the walls up.JS: You had discussions that it was a four-year process.
