Warren County High School senior Neva Tackett wasn’t sure her dream of continuing to play fast-pitch softball would come true. It did as she signed her letter of intent Tuesday to play ball for Motlow State Community College.
“Playing at Motlow is more than just a scholarship for me. Playing at the next level has been a dream of mine since I started playing fast pitch,” Tackett said. “There for a short period of time I did not think I would be able to make my dream come true. With my dad and mom pushing me and standing behind me no matter what, I have realized this dream once again. Playing at Motlow means my hard work has paid off and was recognized by a collegiate school.”
Tackett has played her game and excelled academically. She has found the perfect balance and can now continue her passion in Tennessee. Her parents, a driving force of support through the years, always encouraged her.
“We as parents are very proud of her and can’t wait to see her play at the next level,” said Neva’s father Ryan. “We have watched her play softball since she was 4 and I can’t wait so see her on her next journey. We’re not only proud of her on field accomplishments but her academics as well. She stays on honor roll and works hard at all she does. It’s an honor for my wife and I to be her parents.”
Tackett’s performance didn’t go unnoticed by her coach over the years, Gooby Martin.
“I have coached Neva since sixth grade and she has matured over the years into a great ballplayer,” said Martin. “She is excellent on defense and a real competitor and it’s wonderful to see her progress to the next level. She will be a great asset.”
Recently, a visit to the Tullahoma campus proved to be the decision maker for Tackett.
“The nice girls and amazing coaches are what make me looking forward to playing at Motlow very easy. The girls made me feel as though I was a part of the team the first time they met me. Although playing travel ball with or against many of the girls helped me not feel out of place.”
