Trinity Reynolds continued her hot shooting by pouring in 20 points at Shelbyville, but it wasn't enough to push the Lady Pioneers past the Eaglettes. Shelbyville topped WCHS 63-49 in a battle for third place in District 9-4A.

When Warren County arrived in Shelbyville Tuesday, the Lady Pioneers and Pioneers both knew they had major chances to take huge steps in the district standings. By the time both squads left, it was the Golden Eagles and Eaglettes making strides in District 9-4A.

Shelbyville pulled off a sweep at home Tuesday as the Eaglettes topped the Lady Pioneers 63-49 and the Golden Eagles snapped a 13-game winning streak for the WCHS boys with a 57-55 decision.

The Pioneers, now 17-4 overall, can still clinch - at worst - a share of the regular-season title with a win at Coffee County Friday, but dreams of a perfect run through district play were dashed in the final seconds on the road. Warren County had the ball in the last minute and was holding for what could be a game-winning shot, but instead the Eagles stole away the chance - and the game - in a 15-second span.

Warren County had a sideline pass stolen near midcourt, sending the Golden Eagles scrambling to get off a game-winning shot. The first try was short, but Kyler Trice swooped in on the backside, outworking Warren County for a board and getting fouled trying to hit a game winner.

Trice was able to swish two free throws with :02 left and a halfcourt heave from Devin Fish at the buzzer sailed over the backboard as the Pioneers saw their winning streak - which dated back to before Christmas - snapped on the road.

Nathan Turner did his best to try to push the Pioneers over the top in Shelbyville, scoring a team-high 18 points. Deashawn Adams and Keyton Reno finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Pioneers.

In the girls game, the Lady Pioneers had an opportunity to surge into a tie for third place in the District 9-4A standings, but Shelbyville wasn't going to allow it to happen. The Eaglettes built an 11-point lead by the end of first quarter (16-5) and stayed in control throughout as the Lady Pioneers fell to 4-4 in district play.

Trinity Reynolds had a huge night for Warren County, scoring 20 points in the loss. Brinlee Griffith joined her cousin in double figures, finishing with 10 points as Warren County dropped to 7-17 overall this season.

Both Warren County squads will be back in action Friday at Coffee County. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Manchester.
