Warren County High School junior Brady Swallows has been selected as one of just 20 students across the state to serve on the inaugural Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Student Advisory Committee.

Chosen from a competitive pool of more than 200 applicants, Swallows represents the Middle Tennessee region and joins a diverse group of student-athletes working to elevate the voices of high school students across Tennessee. The committee aims to serve as ambassadors for their peers and for TSSAA, while contributing directly to the governance of high school athletics in the state.

The Student Advisory Committee focuses on key issues affecting student-athletes, provides feedback on rules and regulations, supports TSSAA initiatives, and promotes sportsmanship and leadership both on and off the field. Committee members must demonstrate strong character, leadership, and academic achievement—with applicants required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and submit multiple recommendations from school officials. Brady attended his first virtual meeting with the committee last week and is already looking forward to making a difference in the lives of his peers through this new role.

“I applied because I think it’s important for students to have a voice in TSSAA. Being part of the inaugural group, I want to help set the precedent so future students can continue having a voice for the betterment of high school sports,” Swallows said.

WCHS Executive Principal Chris Hobbs praised Swallows’ selection and emphasized the importance of student representation at the state level.

“This is an outstanding achievement that reflects not only his dedication to athletics and academics but also his leadership, integrity, and commitment to representing his peers on a statewide level,” Hobbs said. “His voice will help shape the future of student athletics in Tennessee, and we are confident he will bring insight, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm to this important role. We are proud of his accomplishment and excited to see the positive impact he will make.”

WCHS Athletic Co-director and Pioneer Baseball Head Coach Phillip King also commended Swallows’ leadership and integrity, noting his potential to represent both the school and region with excellence.

“What a great honor to be chosen on the first TSSAA Student Advisory Committee. I can’t think of a better student-athlete to represent Warren County in this position. I’ve had the privilege with baseball to coach Brady for the last 3 years. He exemplifies all the qualities we want representing our sports programs here at WCHS. He is a leader in our clubhouse and a great teammate within our program,” King said.

The Student Advisory Committee meets twice per year: once in person during the fall and once via Zoom during the spring. Members provide input on a variety of initiatives including mental health awareness, sportsmanship campaigns, and student safety efforts. Students are also encouraged to meet within their regional groups to brainstorm solutions and develop projects that align with TSSAA goals.

Swallows’ appointment not only reflects his own dedication and character but also shines a spotlight on the positive impact WCHS students are making across the state.
