If winning is the best medicine in baseball, then Stewart Pharmacy had the right prescription Saturday night.Stewart Pharmacy won the 7-8 boys machine-pitch league tournament by defeating Quality Mold 15-5 in the championship game.Quality Mold was the Cinderella story coming into the championship game, but the clock struck midnight on the great tournament run in the championship game.After winning two games Saturday, Quality Mold couldn’t make it three in a row against Stewart Pharmacy.Stewart Pharmacy lead-off batter Christian Rogers had a standout night, finishing 4-for-4 at the plate including a walk-off hit in the bottom of the fourth that enacted the mercy rule.Stewart Pharmacy entered the bottom of the fourth leading 13-5 and needed only two runs to clinch the championship.With Oskar Diaz, Ethan Steakley and Dominique Kirby all on base, Rogers got the opportunity to end the game with one swing.Rogers belted the ball through the middle of the infield, scoring Diaz easily. Steakley streaked around third and didn’t slow down until he crossed home for the game-winning run.The celebration started soon after as Stewart Pharmacy won for the second time Saturday to hoist the championship trophy.Quality Mold, which beat Hillis Nursery 9-3 and O’Reilly 12-3 to make the championship, started the game with two runs in the top of the first.Kelton Baker’s two-run single scored Austin Conner and Kayden Coates to give Quality Mold the early advantage.Stewart Pharmacy answered back by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.Rogers started a string of singles that would provide for the first-inning offense. Rogers, Jalen Pleasant and Kolby Newby each singled to start the game, with Newby scoring Rogers.After an out, Nathan Elrod and Jax King added RBI singles.
