State qualifiers

Brayan Holguin and Julian Martinez don't have to guess. They already know their two of the fastest middle schoolers in the state.

The pair of WCMS cross country runners qualified for the state tournament by finishing among the top runners in last weekend's section event.

"They crushed it. It was a great day overall," sais WCMS coach Patty Kelly.

Holguin edged his teammate on the 2.1-mile course by just a second, finishing the event in 12 minutes, 56.25 seconds. Martinez was right behind at 12:57.31.

Their finishes helped Warren County place eighth overall in the field of 23 teams from Middle Tennessee.

Holguin and Martinez will advance to the state tournament, which will be held this Saturday at Austin Peay State University.

The duo's individual success comes after the team has piled up wins this year. The WCMS cross country teams have won several events this year, including the Pioneer Invitational held earlier this season at WCMS.
