Southard stars at Freed Hardeman

Andy Southard has been many things since his baseball career started. He was a little-leaguer, a Pioneer, a Buck and, most recently, a Lion.It was with the Freed Hardeman Lions where Southard enjoyed the most success in his long career.As a senior, Southard helped the Lions win their first regular-season championship in the TranSouth conference in 15 years and was named an all-conference performer.Playing his second season at Freed Hardeman, the left-handed pitcher went 9-1 with a 3.57 ERA to earn second-team All-TranSouth honors as the Lions finished the season 36-23 overall and 16-10 in conference.Southard was a big help in the Lions winning the conference for the first time since 1997 and earning a top-20 ranking by the end of the season.It was no shock Southard was big for the Lions this season. Southard has been starring on the diamond for several years, starting with his career at Warren County High School.Southard played four years for the Pioneers before graduating in 2008.
