Over the years, I’ve had a handful of opportunities to step onto the sidelines. Sometimes coaches requested I help because they genuinely thought I had some wisdom to impart, while I think other offers were extended with sarcasm after I wrote a scathing column about their coaching. Either way, I decided to stay away.
