Random Thoughts - Toney a superstar
Durham, Brad.png

No. 1 Katie Toney is an exceptional athlete who should be getting more attention statewide for her athletic ability and recent scoring record for the Lady Pioneer soccer team. Toney has reached 100 career goals and has plenty of matches this season to significantly increase that total. She may very well be this year’s superstar of Warren County athletics.

She has to be seen in person to appreciate everything she does on the field. Toney has incredible body control as she moves around the field, and she gets up faster than anyone I have seen when she gets knocked down. Many of her goals come after she has just been knocked down by an opposing team. The best comparison I can make is Michael Jordan, who is not a current athlete, but Toney plays with Jordan-like tenacity and body control. She is that good.

No. 2 The Pioneer football team named its players of the game on Monday. MVP was Braylon Grayson. Offensive Player of the Game, Jaythan Pleasant. Defensive Player, Hunter Pezzimenti, and Special Teams, Dawson Haley.

Jaythan Pleasant shows all the signs of becoming a legendary running back for Warren County. The sophomore gives the Pioneers a big 1-2 punch with junior Braylon Grayson on offense.

No. 3 C.J. Taylor traveled to Colorado State on Saturday night and dressed for the Vanderbilt Commodores. C.J. did not play (DNP) and he will learn in a few weeks if he will be redshirted this season.

Dirty Doug Wells is starting at right guard for Maryville College. Aiden Cummings was at the game Friday night against Mt. Juliet. Kason Holder was around the grandstands at the fair Monday night watching the Ledbetter girl in the Fairest of the Fair. Should have known that it would be a woman that got Kason back in town.

No. 4 Lauren Slatton is the only girl on the high school golf team. She is a phenom who made it to the state tournament last year. She has been playing a lot of golf over the summer. All the high school sports are in new classifications, and Slatton’s path to the state tournament will be different this year.

She is fun to watch and she is usually has the best score of any high school girls the Pioneers face. Hope she makes it to the state again this year, which will be in Sevierville, not Manchester.

No. 5 I watched some of Peyton and Eli Manning’s broadcast on ESPN2 of Monday Night Football. I enjoyed the frankness and humor of Peyton, which was expected. I hope they find a way to get them out of the box on the screen, and put Peyton and Eli in the same room. Having special guests helps because Eli is very reserved.
