In game one Wednesday night to start the Newtown softball tournament, Ramirez Transport took on Double D softball.
Double D kept things close for the first inning trailing by five, but it only scored one more run the entire game and Ramirez Transport ran away with a dominating 31-3 victory, advancing them to next week’s semifinals.
Jeff Chisam and Jared Underwood led the way at the plate for Ramirez Transport as they both went 5-for-5. Josh Winfree added a 4-for-4 showing in the win. Perry Reed got the win on the mound with a dominating pitching performance, allowing three runs in the contest.
Despite the loss, Double D was led in the hitting column by Devin Terry, who went 2-for-2.
Ramirez Transport jumped out to an early seven-run lead in the top of the first thanks to Lindsey Youngblood’s RBI double, Chisam’s RBI single, Omar Benitez’s 3-RBI double, and a 2-RBI single by Perry Reed, 7-0.
Double D cut the deficit to five, 7-2, in the bottom of the inning as Terry hit a 2-RBI single but that was as long as the rally lasted as it left three runners on base.
Ramirez Transport added 11 runs to its already comfortable lead in the top of the second courtesy of Benitez’s grand slam, three RBI singles, and four RBI doubles, 18-2.
Double D managed to get a run across in the bottom of the inning, when Trey Bouldin hit an RBI single to the outfield, 18-3 as the deficit remained large, after two.
Ramirez Transport tacked on 13 runs in the top of the third and put the game away in impressive fashion, 31-3, after the Double D bats remained cold in the bottom of the inning.
