Diamond domination is on the minds of both the WCMS baseball and softball teams this week.

Both squads will start play in the CTC tournament and hopes are high in both dugouts that titles could be on their way to Warren County.

The Lady Pioneers, last year’s champion, enter the CTC tournament as the No. 2 seed following Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Coffee County. Warren County is 17-4 this season, with regular-season champion Coffee County handing the team half its losses.

Coach Joe Damon thinks his team is going into the postseason after playing its best game, even if the outcome didn’t go his way.

“We played a very good team very close,” said Damon. “Our defense was strong. We did a good job scoring when we got on base – just needed a couple more timely hits. It’s probably the most complete game we’ve played.”

The Lady Pioneers will begin play against Franklin South Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Warren County won both matchups with the Lady Trojans this season. With a win, Warren County would play again Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 27. The tournament will be played in Manchester.

The WCMS baseball team enters tournament play on a five-game winning streak, with two of those victories coming against its first-round opponent Tuesday. The No. 3 seed Pioneers will face White County at 7 p.m.

A win would push Warren County into the winner’s bracket semifinals Thursday, April 25 at 5 p.m.

Coach Chad Young believes his team has what it takes to bring home a championship.

“We have a great group of young men. No player is bigger than the team. Everybody works together,” said Young.

The baseball tournament will be held in Tullahoma. The championship game will be played Tuesday, April 30.
