Games begin at McMinnville Civic Center

A weekend full of rain left Monday’s opening day at McMinnville Civic Center in doubt, but nothing was going to stop umpires from shouting “Play ball.” After employees worked all day on the fields, boys and girls were able to start play in four different leagues Monday.Womack Printing’s Weston Wilson fired the first pitch this season in the 9-10-year-old boys junior league, kicking off a night where nine games were played.Wilson went on to pitch six innings to lead Womack Printing to an 8-1 win over Enterprise. Wilson was dominant on the mound for Womack Printing, striking out nine and allowing only three hits.Wilson also led his team with three hits, while C.J. Taylor, Bryson Elrod, Robbie Cole, Carter Smith and Bryan Bynum each added hits in the victory.Alyx Smith had a hit and scored Enterprise’s lone run Monday.
