The WCHS Pioneers basketball team traveled to Manchester on Saturday for its second Hall of Fame game of the season against Paige from Franklin. Warren County led 16-10 after the opening quarter and won the game decisively, 70-52.
Kaden Rutledge played his first game of the season after sitting out the first Hall of Fame game with a slight injury. Rutledge and Nate Elrod led the Pioneers in scoring with 13 points each. Sophomore Isaiah Cummings was close behind with 12 points.
HEAD COACH COMMENTS
Head coach Chris Sullens commented on the game, “I’m proud of our group. They worked extremely hard possession after possession. They set a tone early and this is a group that is understanding we can be 10-11 deep right now. They do what is asked of them for the minutes they play, and then are good teammates for the other guys on the floor. It’s still a work in progress. As we tell our guys, ‘It’s either Ws or Ls, Winning or Learning.’ We are trying to keep winning as we compete and learn. This team is fun to coach. They are so eager to prove themselves, and this community is going to enjoy how hard they play each and every minute.”
The Pioneers opened their regular season last night at Tullahoma as the Southern Standard was going to print. The score from that game can be found at the Southern Standard Scoreboard on the newspaper’s website, www.southernstandard.com.
Both the boys and girls are home Friday night against DeKalb County.
