The Warren County High School boys basketball team made a furious comeback in the coaching debut of Chris Sullens but couldn’t get past Coffee County on Thursday in Tullahoma.The Pioneers cut the lead to one point in the final minute, but a late turnover proved costly as Coffee County emerged with a 62-60 victory.“We’re a young basketball team right now, but we’re going to get better every time we step on the floor,” said Sullens.Alex Yates and Holden Baker both drained 3-pointers for the Pioneers in the final two minutes to spearhead the late rally. Baker’s shot cut the lead to 59-58 with about :30 to play.Forced to foul, the Pioneers caught a break when Coffee County only made 1-of-2 free throws to make it a 60-58 game. But with the chance to tie or take the lead, Warren County couldn’t capitalize when a turnover came at the most inopportune time, allowing the Red Raiders to escape with a victory.Turnovers and missed shots cost the Pioneers early as Coffee County was up 32-18 at the half.
