Pioneers defeat Franklin North, clinch JV championship

After starting the JV tournament over the weekend in Coffee County with wins over Coffee County and Franklin North, the WCMS JV baseball team was one win away from claiming the tournament title.
The Pioneers defeated Franklin North, 6-1, in the championship game to become the 2016 JV champions.
 WCMS had a spectacular regular season, which saw the Pioneers go 14-3 and that carried over into the tournament as they breezed through the competition winning every game by at least four runs. The Pioneers were led in the final game by Kason Holder, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Westen Wilson earned the win on the mound for the Pioneers, going six innings, allowing one run, and striking out two Franklin North batters.
The Pioneers started the scoring early in the bottom of the first, after Franklin North failed to score in the top of the inning, with an RBI single by C.J. Taylor and the Pioneers had the momentum, 1-0, after one.
Franklin North failed to score in the top of the second and the Pioneers added another run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Ben Rivers RBI, 2-0. Wilson was dealing on the mound, putting Franklin North down in order in the top of the third.
The Pioneers blew the game wide open in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs. RBIs by Braden Bottoms, Wilson, Kason Holder and Ty Martin helped the Pioneers add to their lead, 6-0, after three.
Wilson took care of Franklin North the rest of the way as he only allowed one run to give the Pioneers the win and claim the JV championship, 6-1.
