No matter if it’s run-and-gun or beating-and-banging style games, Warren County ends up the same at the end of the night. Right now, no District 9-4A foe can keep the Pioneers from celebrating in the locker room following big victories.
Warren County continued its unbeaten run in district matchups Tuesday, crushing Coffee County 46-24 at home. The Pioneers, now 4-0 in district and 13-3 overall, have put a stranglehold on the top spot despite opponents trying all sorts of ways to slow them down.
Devin Fish paced the Pioneers with 14 points in the rivalry game, while Deashawn Adams notched a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) in a slugfest with the Red Raiders. Keyton Reno also continued his high-flying ways, dunking three times as he finished with 11 points.
Reno brought a big crowd gathered at the Dalt to its feet early, hammering home an alley-oop in the first minute. It set the tone the entire night as the Pioneers were meticulous in their execution, working patiently to poke holes in the Coffee County zone defense.
The Red Raiders stayed with the Pioneers through the first half, trailing 18-13 at halftime as Corban Felton kept the home team in the lead with his outside shooting. Warren County started pulling away in the second half, spurred on by an early triple from Reno. Adams added two cutting layups in transition to make it a double-digit lead, one that only grew down the stretch.
Reno had the defining moment of what ended up being a blowout in the fourth, climbing high for a jam over the top of a retreating Coffee County defender that brought the whole Pioneer bench to its feet.
Fish slammed the door on the Red Raiders with his own 7-0 run late, including a spectacular, twisting finish and powering through a defender for a three-point play seconds later.
Warren County will get a chance to make it five district wins in a row Friday when it travels to Columbia. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
